Home Inventory – Why You Need to Conduct a Home Inventory

  • April 2007 Southeastern states encountered severe weather to include flooding, hail, tornadoes, and severe thunderstorms in mid-April. Over $1.5 billion in damages/costs
  • June 2006. Northeastern flooding due to several weeks of heavy rainfall, affected NY, PA, DE, MD, NJ, and VA and caused over $1.0 billion in damage/costs
  • April 2006. Midwest/Southeast Tornadoes slammed through OK, KS, MO, NE, KY, OH, TN, IN, MS, GA, and AL on April 6-8 with 3 tornadoes in TN alone.
  • Over $1.5 billion in damages/costs, So, what does that have to do with YOU? That’s a fair question. But before I answer that, let me ask you a question. Out of those examples:

How many people do you believe expected a disaster?

We all know that California has wildfires and the Midwest has tornadoes, but how many of the individuals do you believe expected it to happen to them? Probably not a one, but it did happen.

Ok, not impressed with natural disasters. Well check this bit of information out.

  • In 2005, law enforcement agencies reported an estimated 2,154,126 burglary offenses. Burglary accounted for 21.2 percent of the estimated number of property crimes committed in 2005.

Ok, now you have people taking your stuff. Do you have the serial number of that television that could possibly be stolen? Do you know the make and model of the stereo system you had for 2 years now? Ok, now you are beginning to see the light.

I am going to drop one more bombshell on you and then we’ll talk home inventory. Did you know that in 2006, fire fighters responded to 1,642,500 fires and those fires resulted in over $11,307,000,000 in direct property loss? Could you remember everything in your home if you lost everything in your home?

And now the answer; you need a home inventory to give you peace of mind. It’s that simple. Bad things will happen. Not being prepared just makes it worse. Also, you MUST have home owners or renter’s insurance for your property list to truly be effective.
